Our Charitable Partners

At Wren Park we support a number of charities locally, nationally and internationally. We see this work as a vitally important partnership in teaching children about the world around them as well as about the difficulties people and communities face through environmental, social or political issues which they are faced with. We use this as a means to discuss and debate as well as to support through empathy and practical help or fundraising.

We hope our children can see how they have a positive impact on those less fortunate or facing difficulty.

We always focus on what the Wren Park children can learn from the plight of others although we also teach them about supporting charities for altruistic purposes.

Please support our charities and events (many of which are identified by children's own personal interests).

In the past few years, we have supported many charities through various events which have been run both in and out of school.

Local Care Homes

For September 2024, we are very excited to be working with a local care home Middleton Lodge in Littleover.

Over the years we have worked very closely with another Littleover care home called Derby Heights.  In the past our children have designed room names and visited to sing Christmas carols, parade their Easter Bonnets and attended their official opening! In return we have received some lovely gifts of baking and gardening equipment for our school, along with some Derby County items to raffle at our school fair!

Through this partnership we hope children become actively engaged in charitable events to develop their understanding of charity and to see the positive impact they can have on the lives of others.

Last year some children in Year 6 attended activity sessions such as card bingo, cake decorating and quizzes. It was fantastic to see the children supporting the elderly residents with the tasks, showing great kindness and respect and asking the residents lots of questions about their past. The residents really enjoyed meeting the children and always looked forward to the next activities with the children. We are also very honoured that their café has been named the "Wren's Café".

Comic Relief – Red Nose Day 2024

This year we organised a non-uniform and crazy hair-do day, where the children were encouraged to wear something red in aid of Comic Relief. Many children, parents and families donated money to Comic Relief. At the start of the week the school council went around the classes and sold red noses to children who wanted one.

The children learned about what Comic Relief and Red Nose Day is all about and watched videos during an assembly about children who have been helped by Comic Relief in the past and how it has helped to improve their lives.

The PTA supported the event by running a bake sale after school on the playground which was very popular. Lots of children and families also donated silver coins for them to take part in the maths challenge, 'How long can we make a line using silver coins?' We had an incredible amount of coins donated and the line was a whopping 25 metres long.

The day was a huge success, the children all loved it and we raised a lot of money to support a great charity.

Thank you to everyone who supported us.

Together we raised £856.53

Remembrance Day – November 2023

At 11.00am on the 10th November 2023, we were very pleased to see how respectful the children were during our Remembrance service, where everyone paused and reflected on the service and sacrifices the Armed Forces make on our behalf. All the classes made a poppy as part of a class wreath and members of the school council performed a poem to the whole school. Mr Hudson, a former teacher, also returned to school to perform ‘The Last Post’ on the bugle.

Thank you to all of you that purchased Poppies, the Royal British Legion will collect our donations in the coming weeks.

October 2023 - Harvest

Thank you very much for all the food donations during our Harvest Festival. We received a huge amount of donations.

The Padley Group were incredibly grateful for all the generous donations. Please see attached a letter from the Padley Group thanking pupils, parents and staff for all of the donations.

Ukraine Fundraising – April 2022

After seeing the devastating news about the war in Ukraine. A special mention goes to Lara and Lexi in Year 5, who did a fantastic job of raising lots of money to help the people of Ukraine. They raised a massive £571 during school coffee mornings and a total close to £800 for the Unicef humanitarian aid for Ukraine.
