Our Partners and Charitable Support

We work with a number of different partners to ensure that we provide the best possible learning experience for all children at Wren Park. Our partners include charities, local schools, local industries and organisations within our community.

Partnerships within our local area

We are proud to have established strong partnerships within our local community and beyond, providing our students with unique and enriching opportunities. Our collaboration with Repton Prep in Milton has enabled our Year 6 children to participate in curriculum enrichment afternoons, including public speaking activities, hockey, and art lessons. Some Year 6 pupils have also attended a dinner and debate evening at Repton, joining other schools in taking part in persuasive arguments on key topics.

Additionally, we partner with Derby County Community Trust, whose coaches have recently worked with our Year 5 children to promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle and deliver engaging PE sessions. We are also proud to have supported the Rams in Kenya initiative, an annual project that works to improve the lives of children in partner schools within Kenya's slums.

Our commitment to STEM education has been strengthened through partnerships with local industries, including Rolls-Royce. Through the Imagineering Club, students have developed their engineering skills by creating a series of working models. Furthermore, our staff have received valuable training from the University of Derby, and we have in the past explored collaborative projects to provide exciting learning opportunities for our pupils and this is something we aim to do more of in the future.

Charitable partnerships

At Wren Park, we are committed to supporting a range of charities locally, nationally, and internationally. We see this as a vital part of teaching our children about the world around them—helping them understand the challenges faced by individuals and communities due to environmental, social, or political issues. Through fundraising, practical help, and discussions, we encourage empathy, awareness, and the importance of making a positive impact.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, we will be supporting several charities:

  • October 2024 – We supported the YMCA @ Padley Group, collecting food and toiletry donations to help people in Derby who are homeless or living in poverty.
  • November 2024 – We took part in the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal to honour and support those who serve in the armed forces.
  • March 2025 – We will be supporting The Air Ambulance Service by taking part in a Wear It Yellow Day. Children are encouraged to wear something yellow and donate £1 to the cause. The Air Ambulance team will also visit the school to educate the children about their life-saving work.
  • March 2025 – We will also mark Red Nose Day. Voluntary contributions will be collected at the school gate.
  • Summer 2025 – We will be fundraising for UNICEF, running various events to support their essential global work.

In addition to these planned events, we regularly support charities identified through children's own interests and initiatives. We hope our children can see the positive difference they make by helping those in need. More importantly, we aim to teach them that charity is not just about fundraising—it’s about understanding, empathy, and kindness.

We appreciate your support in helping us make a difference!

Local Care Homes

For September 2024, we are very excited to be working with a local care home Middleton Lodge in Littleover.

Over the years we have worked very closely with another Littleover care home called Derby Heights.  In the past our children have designed room names and visited to sing Christmas carols, parade their Easter Bonnets and attended their official opening! In return we have received some lovely gifts of baking and gardening equipment for our school, along with some Derby County items to raffle at our school fair!

Through this partnership we hope children become actively engaged in charitable events to develop their understanding of charity and to see the positive impact they can have on the lives of others.

Last year some children in Year 6 attended activity sessions such as card bingo, cake decorating and quizzes. It was fantastic to see the children supporting the elderly residents with the tasks, showing great kindness and respect and asking the residents lots of questions about their past. The residents really enjoyed meeting the children and always looked forward to the next activities with the children. We are also very honoured that their café has been named the "Wren's Café".

Remembrance Day – November 2024

At 11.00am on the 8th November 2024, we were very pleased to see how respectful the children were during our Remembrance service, where everyone paused and reflected on the service and sacrifices the Armed Forces make on our behalf. All the classes made a poppy as part of a class wreath and the children in Year 3 lead the whole school in singing the song 'We'll Meet Again' by Vera Lynn.

Thank you to all of you that purchased Poppies, the Royal British Legion will collect our donations in the coming weeks.

October 2024 - Harvest

Thank you very much for all the food donations during our Harvest Festival. We received a huge amount of donations.

The Padley@YMCA Group were incredibly grateful for all the generous donations. Please see attached a letter from the Padley Group thanking pupils, parents and staff for all of the donations.

Comic Relief – Red Nose Day 2024

This year we organised a non-uniform and crazy hair-do day, where the children were encouraged to wear something red in aid of Comic Relief. Many children, parents and families donated money to Comic Relief. At the start of the week the school council went around the classes and sold red noses to children who wanted one.

The children learned about what Comic Relief and Red Nose Day is all about and watched videos during an assembly about children who have been helped by Comic Relief in the past and how it has helped to improve their lives.

The PTA supported the event by running a bake sale after school on the playground which was very popular. Lots of children and families also donated silver coins for them to take part in the maths challenge, 'How long can we make a line using silver coins?' We had an incredible amount of coins donated and the line was a whopping 25 metres long.

The day was a huge success, the children all loved it and we raised a lot of money to support a great charity.

Thank you to everyone who supported us.

Together we raised £856.53
