PE and Sport Premium
At Wren Park we believe it is important that the children exercise regularly and are taught about how to live a healthy lifestyle.
In school we want the children to be active and making use of the outdoor spaces as much as possible. Every class, from Reception through to Year 6 have a weekly Soccer Stars session and PE sessions led by their class teachers. Classes also make regular use of the hall, field, playground and trim trail to fit in extra physical activities and learning opportunities. Where possible, PE is used to enhance learning in other curriculum areas, including maths, science and PSHE.
The children in Year 4 also receive regular swimming lessons throughout the year at Gayton Swimiming Pool.
There are also lots of sport-related extracurricular activities opportunities available throughout the school year such as multi-sports, football and badminton. Soccerstars also provide extra-currciular activities throughout the year ranging from archery, gymnastics, dance, and many more different sports. Year 5 and Year 6 also have the opportunity to gain their Level 1 and Level 2 bike awards with Cycle Derby, who come into school every year. We have also had Derby County Community Trust sports coaches come into school to deliver PE sessions, as well as theory-based lessons on how to lead a healthy lifestyle. Throughout the year, many more outside agencies come into school and promote any out-of-school activities for children to get involved in outside of school. Our breakfast club, run by outside providers, also ensures that part of their morning sessions are active and, weather permitting, held outside.
Funding has been allocated to all maintained and state-funded schools with primary phase pupils from 1 September 2013.

- Target the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs.
- Provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
- Run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in school games
- Run sports activities with other schools
